Wanna Become a Model

So you want to be a model, but aren't sure how to go about "breaking in" to the business? Here are my tips to get you off on the right foot!
1. Look at yourself realistically. Modeling is NOT for everyone. Models are generally between 5'9 and 6'0, weighing between 120-130 lbs. Generally, agencies like girls to be under 18 years old when beginning, as the models career is usually short. You should have nicely spaced eyes, a straight nose (though this is not always the case!)beautiful skin, and a nice smile. Skin tones and face shapes are varied these days, which allows many girls who might not have worked before, to be very successful! If you have these qualities, see a reputable agency for an opinion.
2. Do NOT invest any money in such things such as schooling or pictures. Modeling school is not always bad, but it's not necessary to become a model. A good agent will be able to see your potential right away, without pictures. If the agent thinks you have potential, they will set you up with a "test" photographer which is very inexpensive. (You usually just pay for film and development.) This will allow the agency to see how you photograph.
3. On the subject of "photographing well", some girls look absolutely fabulous in person and the agency has great hope, but then she simply doesn't "improve" in print. Other girls who look almost plain in person, might look absolutely amazing in pictures.
4. Keep a positive attitude! Remember, modeling is a competitive business, so you are bound to face rejection. Just remember, if one agent doesn't take you, another one might! :) A winning attitude is very important in a business that is all about how you project yourself.
5. If you don't meet the height and weight requirements, don't worry. Ask your local agencies about "commercial" modeling, an area that encourages all shapes and sizes!

Tips for Developing the “Inner You”.

Exercise regularly.
Eat well. This means lots of fruits and veggies and plenty of water.
Get plenty of rest-you feel better when you’re getting enough sleep.
Focus on the things you like about yourself. Got great eyes? Play them up! Beautiful hands? Keep them well manicured.
Develop your interests and hobbies. Have you always wanted to paint? Take an art class. Are you a good dancer? Try lessons. A great athlete? Join a team.
Take some time and think about what it is you’d like to accomplish. Then take a step every day towards your goal. For example: You want to be a writer? Write down the steps you will need to take: Make the time to write. Schedule it. Take a class to help you brush up on your skills. Subscribe to newsletters or journals that encourage and keep you motivated. Talk with experts and listen to their advice, etc. Show your work! Take time for others. Nothing makes us feel better about ourselves than lending a helping hand. Big a big sister, or volunteer at an animal shelter or retirement center.
Keep a journal. Write down your daily thoughts and feelings. You will learn so much about yourself just by noticing what’s going on in your life.
Listen to your body. Everyone has a different internal “schedule.” Eat when you’re hungry, sleep when you’re tired.
Smile! People are attracted to those who are happy!

Get Smooth Skin With Aloe Vera

Aloe vera has long been known for it's skin beautifying properties and soothing effects. It also makes a wonderful, all over body moisturizer and can be personalized with your favorite scent.
Simply purchase a large container of pure aloe, which is available at most drug stores. Add 2-3 drops of essential oil (per application), depending on your mood. Here are some ideas:
* Lavender works well as a relaxant and skin tonic.
* Orange or lemon oil is uplifting and energizing.
* Calendula and rosemary both soothe irritated skin and rashes.
By making your own aloe body moisturizers, you'll keep your skin smooth and supple while enlivening your senses.

Pimple Cure

Stop pimples in their tracks by mixing some brewers yeast with plain yogurt and applying to face. Let sit a few minutes, then wipe clean.
Make your own facial toner by combining eigth ounces of mineral water with two drops essential oil, such as peppermint or lavender. Store in the refrigerator for an invigorating skin boost.
For dry hair, mash one ripe banana with a teaspoon of almond oil and massage in to dry or damp hair. Let sit for 20 minutes and rinse thoroughly.
For oily hair, mix equal amounts of aloe vera gel and shampoo, plus a tablespoon of lemon juice.
For a quick weight-loss boost, garlic and papaya tablets are a favorite of many models. You can get these tablets at the health food store.
Drink lots of water!! Great for skin, hair, nails, and flushing out harmful toxins. For extra cleansing benefits, add some lemon.
For beautiful teeth, mix a little baking soda and hydrogen peroxide together and use as a “paste” once a week. This will remove stains and plaque.
If cellulite is a problem, massage some lemon or grapefruit essentail oil (in a base of almond or sesame oil) into affected areas regularly. Coffee grounds (warm, caffeinated)also help to improve the look of cellulite when massaged into skin in the shower. Caffeine is a main ingredient in many cellulite cream that cost a fortune.

Winter Fashion

This fall and winter, natural fabrics that show ease and comfort are making a comeback. Earthy colors such as orange, green, and brown (and all shades of these colors) are hugely popular. To me, this is wonderful news! I have always loved big, chunky, natural fabric sweaters in the fall and winter, as well as comfortable and relaxed bottoms. Fashion should never be about sacrificing comfort, and this season gives us all a chance to recognize and make the most of this!
Here are some of my favorite items for the upcoming months!
1. The red coat. Always a classic, the red wool (or other warm fabric) coat is livelier than black, and adds flair to your fall wardrobe. Pair with black pants, jeans, a suit...Almost anything!
2. Oranges, golds, and greens...These are the colors of fall! Look for sweaters in autumn shades in a variety of textures and fabrics. If earth tones aren't for you, red's and purples also look beautiful right now.

3. Corduroy pants. They are back, and a nice, comfortable change from your favorite jeans. Choose a shade like black or tan that will work with items you already have in your wardrobe.

4. Houndstooth, leopard, or tartan prints. A houndstooth or pleated tartan print skirt (or jacket) looks great this fall, but be careful not to go overboard. Pair one of these patterned items with a neutral top or bottom, for a fashionable yet put together look.
5. Shoes? Mock Croc and snake print loafers and heels are very big! Comfort inspired loafers are still making a hit (I love these) in new shades such as deep green, red, and brown. Tall boots with a flat, rubber sole are something brand new...Very comfortable, these boots look best with a short, patterned skirt.

6. Accessories:
*Think Gold. Large gold hoops are making a reappearance, and work wonderfully from day to evening. Gold chain belts and necklaces are also very popular. To avoid overdoing it, choose only one "gold" item to accessorize your look.
* The handle bag. This classic bag looks great this fall in red or black mock croc, or even a bold pattern with both colors.

Scrap fabric bag

what you need:

scrap pieces of fabric, ribbon, lace scissors sewing needle and thread or sewing machine and thread

What you do:

sew scrap pieces together to make two rectangles (make them the same size) then sew the two rectangles together on three sides (the side that you didn't sew closed is the top opening) rip or cut three long strips of fabric or ribbon, etc. if they aren't long enough sew more to the ends of the strips. braid the three strips together (this is the handle) sew one end of the braided strap to each end of the opening of the purse. ps: I used vintage scraps for these purses.

Jeans To Skirts

Jeans, Pants, Overalls into Skirts

What you need :

Sewing machine or needle ( will take forever) strong jean thread scissors pattern paper (or a replacement)
sewing pins seam ripper (optional) pencil or pen
fabric

How to:

1. Start off with a pair of overalls (to make a dress) or a pair of jeans (to make a skirt). Make sure the the waist of the jeans still fit you so when you're finished you can wear your new skirt. Same with the overalls. (If the overalls are short, this doesn't matter because it is going to be a dress and the dress will end up longer than the pant legs fit you currently)

2. take a seam ripper or a pair of scissors (more difficult) and undo the inseam (this is the stitching between your legs when you wear your pants). The top picture shows you what the inseam looks like from the outside. The second one shows you what the inseam looks like in the inside (the blue thread stitching in the second picture). If you want the bottom of the skirt to unravel some, to have a frayed look then undo the hem at the bottom of the pants (the hem in the second picture is the vertical seam in the picture with the cream colored thread (horizontal on your pants)). If you don't want the bottom of the skirt to unravel then just undo hem like 3 inches on either side of the inseam. The below picture shows you how far you undo the inseam in the front of the pants (up to the zipper, not past the reinforced stitching below the zipper). (undo the back where the two pant legs are attached the same amount as you did in the front (3.5 to 4 inches).

3. The above picture shows you what your pants will look like after you've finished undoing the inseam.

4. Lay out the pant legs so that they lay out straight naturally. Pin the the fabric that over laps (where the pant legs are attached together) Try on the pants trying not to hurt yourself or make sure they fall right. You can baste stitch them (sew with the largest stitch on your machine or a very large hand stitch, it's large because it isn't supposed to last, it's temporary) to try them on.
5. Take some pattern paper (you can find it at your local sewing store) or tissue paper (the kid for presents) or craft paper, etc ( a paper on a roll or large sheets so that it is big enough for this). Put the paper between the pant legs. Then trace between the pant legs (you'll need to do one for the front and the back). Shown above.

6. then for walking room add some length on either side (I added like 9in). This is so that you can walk in your skirt when your finished.
7. Cut out the pattern (the traced inseam with added walking room) shown above.

8. Place the pattern over your fabric and cut the fabric out in the shape of the pattern. It may help you to pin the pattern to the fabric so that it doesn't move.

9. The inseam has this automatic fold on one side (iron the other side so that it has the same fold inside).
10. Place the pants with the front on the floor. Place the fabric you cut out for the front (place it right side down on the floor, the side you want to show) on top of the front part of the pants (in other ward inside the pants you can open as much as you can the pant legs so it is like the pants are one layer of fabric and not two).
11. Fold the fabric sides under the fold in the inseam and pin. When you finished pining the sides tuck the top point under some (make sure it isn't going to stick out the other side). When your finished pining the fabric it will look like the picture below. Do the same for the back (it may be easier to sew the front before you pin the back)

12. When you sew it start with the pants turned inside out. Just do a regular straight stitch starting at the bottom of the zipper and going all the way down to the bottom about a centimeter away from the edge. (the white stitching in the picture below is what you sew first)

13. Then turn the pant right side out (like normal) and sew as close to the edge as possible.

14. Then using the zigzag stitch. Sew over the inseam that didn't get sew on the inside (the part over lapping under the zipper). Continue the zigzag over the edge of the fabric you used to fill in the pants to make it a skirt. details shown in above and below picture.

15. If you want the skirt to fray some at the bottom then sew two straight lines across the bottom An inch from the bottom and about half an inch from each other. All the way around the bottom of the skirt.
16. If you don't want the skirt to fray then fold the skirt under twice about an inch each time and sew around the inside folded edge all the way around.

Your skirts finished!
Very spring and very cute!

Chain Belt

Instructions for an almost instant ribbon chain link belt. Like the ones that have been on the Chanel runway. What you need :
· One ribbon (length depends on where you want the belt to rest on you and your measurements)
· Three pieces of light weight chain long enough to drape lose on hip

How to do it:

1. Tie the ribbon around your hips (wherever you want the belt to lie) and make a bow.

2. cut the ends of the ribbon (however short you want them to hang from the ribbon).

3. use a fabric pen to mark just behind the bow and where the ribbon hits the middle of your back.

4. untie the ribbon sew the ends of the chains to each of the two markings
You're done! Now wasn’t that quick?!? Tie the ribbon around your waist again so the chains hang down on the side of your hip and go show off at your local hang out ( mall, school, skating rink, smoothie shop, strip center).

5. Take some ribbon (or jean material) (for your strap). Make it the length that you want the bag to hang at add an 4 inches (10 centimeters) (for sewing it to the bag) before cutting . 6. Let the ribbon overlap the inside of your bag on each side an inch and a half fold a half inch of this under itself. Pin the ribbon down and sew it to the bag.

7. decorate it with ribbon, beads, patches, lace, etc. Look at the picture of my bag for ideas.

8. If you want you can add a zipper to the top, or some string/ribbon sewed to both sides of the middle of the top inside of the purse, to close the purse, but it is perfectly fine without on I think. Guess what, you’ve made a cute new purse out of some old jeans. Who ever dreamed you could do so much with some jeans, but it’s true. There are an unlimited amount of stuff you can do with jeans.

Jean Hobo Bag

What you need to make a jean hobo bag: ·

A pair of jeans that you want to make into a purse. If you don’t have any ones you want to use, go to goodwill or salvation army (great place to buy stuff for projects). Use a pair of children’s jeans for a small purse, guy jeans for big, and a girls size around a 6 (28) for a med. Remember to ask permit ion if you are using someone else’s jeans.
· Ribbon (or something else for the strap).
· Scissors
· Thread that matches the jean fabric.
· Needle or sewing machine.
· pins

How to:

1. Take the jeans and cut them straight across right under the butt area, so that there is one big hole where the pant legs used to be. It will look like a micro mini.
2. Turn the jeans inside out (the micro mini part, not the pant legs, you are threw with them, unless you want to make a strap for the purse out of them, otherwise use them in another project). 3. Sew straight across (preferably with a machine, it is stronger), at the bottom of the butt area, where you just cut the pant legs off from (the stitch might be somewhat curved, not perfectly straight).
4. Still inside out, take the corners that you made sewing across the bottom and fold them so the hems on the outside(in this case the outside is inside out) (inside)are touching. It makes a triangle. Sew across the triangle about an inch or so (3 to 4 cm) from the top point of the triangle, so that the seem finishes the triangle. Do the same thing on the other corner (second triangle) (make sure that you make both triangles the same size). (the black line on the picture show the seem for #3 and the purple/pink line shows where you should sew for #4; the second picture shows what it should look like on the outside)

Sweatshirt Ruffle Skirt

what you need :
sweatshirt, scissors, sewing machine, thread, fabric (optional)

how to :
1.take an old sweatshirt that the waist band of the sweatshirt will be tight enough to stay up on your waist (not fall down) and cut diagonally across the middle. 2. Then take your scissors and cut some stripes of fabric all the same width from the rest of the sweatshirt. 3.line up the long side of one of the strips of fabric with the side of the medal sewing foot (the medal piece that goes over the fabric and pushes it down). Sew all the way along the side with your biggest normal straight stitching, on my sewing machine that is a 4.4. Then line up the first line of stitching with the side of the sewing foot/pedal and sew all the way along the side with your biggest normal straight stitching.when your finished sewing the two lines of stitching then it will look like it does above. 5. Separate the two strings from both lines of stitching.6.Take the two that are in the front closes to you one from the top and one from the bottom row and pull. (don't pull too hard or the thread will snap)When your finished pulling the fabric should look like the photos above and bellow.Last. Take the bottom of the sweatshirt you cut off and flip it around so that the waist band of the sweatshirt is at the top. Then pin the ruffled fabric to the skirt about and inch over the end of the skirt and sew the ruffles one the skirt in between the two rows of stitching that are ruffled now. Your done! You can also add cut out pieces of fabric to your skirt like I did with hearts.
